Why drink beer from a tank? Isn't that the same?
"Tankové pivo" (tank beer) is unpasteurised lager delivered fresh from the brewery
into large tanks behind the bar. Berlin bars discovered it a few years ago, and holy
f**k, it's great. This is why:
🛢️
Tanks = The Truth
Instead of steel kegs, the beer rests in large copper or foil-lined tanks.
The beer is pushed out by gently compressed air around a collapsible bag, so
no extra carbon dioxide is forced into the beer. The result is a
softer, rounder, less gassy pour.
🌾
Unpasteurized, No Nonsense
Tank beer is not pasteurised. Pasteurisation heats beer to make it
shelf-stable but flattens the delicate hop and malt aromas. Tank beer skips that
step, so the flavour is fuller and tastes closer to drinking it at the brewery.
🚚
Always Fresh
Because it isn't pasteurized, it has to be consumed quickly. Tank beer is delivered
daily straight from the brewery and kept cold at all times. Every day, trucks drive
from Pilsen straight to Berlin to deliver the goods.
🍺
Properly Poured
Tank beer is made for the traditional Czech "hladinka" pour. Thick, creamy, wet
(just like your last Hinge date?). The foam is incredible. Take a big swig, enjoy
your foam mustache.
